Their dark horse stories of pulling impossible into reach
💕 Ari, homeless as a kid for seven years moving every two weeks from shelter-to-shelter in NYC with her mom. When we signed her she was flunking 8th grade. As a senior, she ranked 2nd in her class and now attends college in NYC.
💕 Ariel was raised by her grandparents a street over from the drug dealers. In the dead of winter with utilities cut-off, cold and damp inside, Ariel’s outside cooking hotdogs over a fire in the dark from sticks fallen from the trees above. She and her brother delivered phone books on-foot getting the power turned on. She’s attending college in Tampa now.
💕 Shayla, always our special challenge dropping out of school in 11th grade. She was signed while in group home foster care for troubled teens. Shayla now works a fast-food drive-through window. She and the CEO still chase the fairy tale; that dream they dare but whisper. Neither thought it to be so hard! Maybe we did, just didn’t want to really believe it.
